Winter has arrived

For the past couple of days it has been snowing, and we’ve been treated to some freezing temperatures. The kind of weather I love and crave, but which is sadly very exceptional over the past years. But we got lucky this winter. Winter has now arrived in full effect, in an almost “old school way”

So I was going to make the most of it, I’ve been out and about in my home area for the past few days shooting video (A new silent hiking video is coming soon) and photographs. I hope this weather will last for a little while so I can go out some more to capture some beautiful and true winter landscapes.

This video shows my hometown dressed in its winter coat. Amazing how differently everything looks with a fresh layer of snow. Below are some photographs I took over the past few days in my area.

Here are some drone shots of my hometown

New Microphone for my Video Audio - Røde VideoMic NTG

I have finally purchased an external microphone for my camera. So I was eager to give it a go, and test it outside for my hiking videos. I really wanted better audio for these type of videos where wind noise wouldn’t be as big of an issue anymore, and to just get more detail and clarity in the sound. I now use a Røde VideoMic NTG for my audio. And so far I love it. Went out in the forest for a nice and relaxing hike on a beautiful day. Have a look at the video below, thank you!

In this next short video below I have tested the microphone in some wind. You can hear the difference in sound quality and wind noise as I compare using the mic without, and with wind protection.

Hatertse en Overasseltse Vennen - Photo Gallery

If you are visiting this page, it is probably because you’ve seen my silent hiking video of this location. Here is a gallery with more photographs from that trip. Thanks a lot for watching. Friendly reminder: all my photographs are available for custom printing, reach out if you are interested.

A nice and cold morning, with freezing temperatures. I love these crispy mornings. I got up early, had to drive one hour to get to this area, and missed sunr...

The last bit of Autumn

These days the leaves are falling from the trees, and the colors are changing faster than lets say 3 weeks ago when the autumn colors were in full effect. It is now mid November and Winter is making its approach. I decided I needed a few more autumn photographs, with these deep tones and rich colors. So a little trip to my local forest later got me just that. A new handful of nice autumn shots.

A new approach to my Youtube videos

I have also shot some video during this little outing. In fact, I have decided to go and make this type of video a sort of a new approach to sharing more of my photography trips. No fancy videos with music, these wild travel/vlog styled transition, catchy music. None of that.

Just way more simple and back to basic. I will simply be showing the area I am out in, mostly by static clips, (still capturing movement) and occasionally showing me at work, photographing and setting up gear and hiking through the environment. I feel there are so many of these typical youtube videos out there. These flashy and poppy videos. Not saying these are bad. I often watch these myself, and truly enjoy them.

But I want create a more calmer and slower viewing experience in my videos. More room for ambiance and sounds, small details and overall “feel” is something I am trying to express and put into these new style of videos. Here’s my first attempt. Hope you like it. I will be putting out more soon.

Thrainn Kolbeinsson: Free for all, my edits.

My friend Thrainn Kolbeinsson from Iceland has put up a bunch of his RAW files on his website. All RAW files of photographs that Thrainn took. But you can get your hands on, and edit.

Its of course very interesting to see someone else play around with your RAW files, and give their creative interpretation to your photographs. I really liked this idea, so that is what I’ve done here. I’ve edited the following of Thrainn’s photographs.
